Next year we will see the 2016 European Championships taking place and it will also mark the 50th anniversary of England winning the World Cup. Ever since England won the World Cup back in 1966, there have always been huge expectations on the country to do well in major international tournaments, with fans being let down more often than not.
There were a lot of expectant England fans going into World Cup 2014 in Brazil last Summer and once again these fans were let down in a very big way. England failed to make it out of their group and went home very early, leaving the England fans to watch the rest of the tournament without any real excitement, with some fans choosing not to watch any more of it.
However, it could have just turned the table on the England expectations, with a lot of fans now feeling that England are not among the top teams in Europe any more, let alone the world. With expectations being lower than ever going into Euro 2016, it could just ease the pressure on the players and let them go out there and enjoy their football in a more carefree fashion.
With that said though, this is England we are talking about and the media there love to put as much pressure on the country as they possibly can. While other countries encourage their up and coming talent, the English media berate them and find ways to bring them down. If it wasn't for the English media, the England team may have won more than just the 1966 World Cup, something which we can never see happening again.
