As with most cases in Hollywood, Sigourney Weaver became a household name around the world after landing her breakthrough role as Ripley in the 1979 movie Alien, going on to make three more movies in the Alien franchise. Since the release of the fourth movie Alien: Resurrection back in 1997, there has been talk of a potential Alien 5 happening but it has never found its way into production.
Sigourney Weaver has now opened up about her time working on the Alien movies, admitting that she was still pretty much a novice when she made the first movie. Sigourney says that there were plans to make Alien 5 right after Alien: Resurrection but she wanted to take a break from the franchise, which ultimately killed the film off.
Weaver recently told Fox News, "I didn’t know very much in that first film at all. Ridley kept asking me not to look in the camera, and I kept saying ‘But you’re pointing it right at me! I would love to return to the Alien saga. It was my fault as I didn’t want to do 5 straight after 4. Maybe there will be another opportunity for us all together again…perhaps with Ridley?"
Ridley Scott has returned to the Alien franchise in a sense, making the movie Prometheus, which is based in the Alien universe. There is talk of Ridley making Prometheus 2 but could we see the director tempted to make a change to his hectic schedule to fit a new Alien movie in? Never say never!
