Although the initial trailer for 'Elysium' definitely set our expectations high, it was nothing compared to the newly released 'extended' trailer for the film.
This trailer is miles beyond what we've seen in the last trailer, both in terms of story and scope. We see the reason that Matt Damon needs to get to Elysium, because he is literally fighting for his life. We get a better sense of the scope and visuals, and we get more of a glimpse into both Alice Braga's character and Sharlto Copley's character.
While some of the 'priveleged' versus 'non-priveleged' elements of the story come off as slightly heavy-handed, it is still a very topical issue and should play well with the audiences in this economy. Neill Blomkamp, as we know from 'District 9', is a very nuanced director and from the looks of this trailer, we'll get a film that manages to keep the action, depth, and scope in spades.
'Elysium' releases on August 9th, and in addition to starring Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Alice Braga, and Sharlto Copley, also stars William Fichtner, Diego Luna, Faran Tahir, Talisa Soto, Carly Pope, and Michael Shanks.
