It has been confirmed that former Formula 1 World Champion, Kimi Raikkonen will be returning to the sport next season, after agreeing a two year deal with Renault, who are set to change their team name to Lotus Renault GP, as of next season. Kimi left Formula 1 back in 2009 to pursue his dream of becoming a World Rally Champion but has admitted that he has an urge to get back to Formula 1.
Kimi Raikkonen explained, "My hunger for F1 has recently become overwhelming. It was an easy choice to return with Lotus Renault GP. I have been impressed by the scope of the team's ambition. Now I'm looking forward to playing an important role in pushing the team to the very front of the grid. My time in the World Rally Championship has been a useful stage in my career as a driver."
Kimi Raikkonen won the 2007 Formula 1 World Championship beating British driver Lewis Hamilton by just a single point, following a quite dramatic final race of the season. Kimi has a rather impressive record in Formula 1, with 18 wins and 62 podiums during his time in the sport. We look forward to seeing his return. Welcome back to Formula 1 Kimi Raikkonen.
